BRAEBRUN 8 HOUR REST
Lance is ready to leave for the final stretch of this years Yukon Quest. He can leave at 1:53 pm after an 8 hour rest. Ken Anderson can leave at 2:12 pm. This is proving to be a good race with promises of an exciting finish. Spectators say both teams look great coming in and going out of the checkpoints.

SCROGGIE CREEK
Update 02/16/08:
Three mushers are out of Scroggie Creek. Lance Mackey has set the pace in this years race. As Lance continues to move towards the finish line, mushers Ken Anderson and Brent Sass are doing their best to give chase. Lance said ” I enjoy a good race, it’s good for the race it’s good for the fans” he nodded. ” It’s more interesting when you don’t know who’s going to win right up to the end”. Before leaving Dawson Lance checked into trail conditions ahead of him. “it’s much better ahead” he smiled with a look of relief, after struggling through what is now behind them, smooth trails will be welcomed. The rough trails gave these athletes quite a work out. The fisrt mushers are expected to cross the finish line sometime Tuesday.

MACKEY GRABS
THE GOLD ARRIVING FIRST IN DAWSON

Feb 15, 2008
It was a long morning of waiting at the Dawson City Checkpoint, but it was worth it. Three-time Champion Lance Mackey glided into town just a minute after 1p.m. with 12 dogs in harness and one in his basket.

Three-Time Champion Lance Mackey takes the
lead
in the 2008 Yukon Quest
CIRCLE CITY, ALASKA (February 12, 2008) – Less than halfway through the 2008 Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race, three-time Champion Lance Mackey of Fairbanks, AK, has taken the lead. On his way to the Eagle (Alaska) Checkpoint, a remote community only accessible in winter by plane, snowmobile or dog sled, Mackey left Slaven’s Cabin Dog Drop at 3:20 this morning. In 2006, when the race traveled in the same direction, it took 37-year-old Mackey more than 17 hours to make the 101-mile (163-kilometre) trek between the two points. That would put him in Eagle around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Dan Kaduce, 38, of Chatanika, AK, had been leading a close pack of frontrunners ever since leaving the Fairbanks Start Line on Saturday, February 9, but Mackey blasted ahead at Circle City Checkpoint and appears to be holding strong to the lead.
Ken Anderson of Fairbanks, AK, Dave Dalton of Healy, AK, Brent Sass of Fairbanks, AK, Hugh Neff of Annie Lake, YT and Michelle Phillips of Tagish, YT, left Slaven’s this morning within five-and-a-half hours of Mackey.

As Tonya Mackey heads down the road to Tok, Alaska she called to give us a quick update on how Lance is doing in this years quest. Listen in (the one dog she forgot to include in the list was wheel dog ” Hansome”).
